CRA provides diagnostic imaging and interventional services at four hospital campuses and several outpatient imaging centers. Coverage is provided through a combination of on-site and off-site interpretation capabilities. Community-based hospitals are located approximately 20 miles from Boston, MA and in Southern Maine. The region boasts highly-rated public and private school systems and easy access to all of Boston’s amenities as well as the rest of charming New England.

Chief of Radiology, Heywood Healthcare in Gardner, MA

CRA is seeking a diagnostic radiologist to serve as Chief of the Department of Radiology at Heywood Healthcare in Gardner, MA. All subspecialties will be considered. No mammo/procedural skills are required, although a hybrid DR/Breast or 100% Breast radiologist would be considered.

Heywood Healthcare includes:

  • Heywood Hospital – a 134-bed community hospital
  • Athol Hospital – a 25-bed community hospital
  • 8 satellite facilities serving the central MA and southern NH regions

The imaging services offered across these facilities include MRI, CT, ultrasound, radiography, fluoroscopy, and mammography. We are developing an interventional radiology service-line.

As Chief, the selected candidate will lead a team of radiologists, ensuring quality, patient safety, and operational excellence within a community hospital setting. Support and resources provided by the CRA Board of Directors and management team. The position includes dedicated administrative time each week, supporting both leadership responsibilities and work-life balance. Clinical coverage is currently Monday through Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, with all after-hours and weekend imaging handled by an external teleradiology service.

The role also includes occasional rotations—primarily remote—at our other sites in Lowell, MA and Melrose, MA, along with limited remote evening (approximately once per month) and weekend (3–4 per year) call responsibilities. (*100% Breast imagers are not required to take call)

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $450,000-$700,000, Fast-track to partnership, robust growth opportunities, and optional moonlighting.
